Analysis of the match between Bologna and Inter
Inter Milan failed to lift the Italian Super Cup for a fourth consecutive time after losing to city rivals AC Milan in last season’s dramatic final. The thrilling derby featured five goals, including a stoppage-time winner, a defeat that went on to negatively impact the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto race and their Champions League final appearance.
Since then, head coach Cristian Chivu has gradually restored Inter’s dominance in Serie A after replacing Simone Inzaghi. With 11 wins from 15 matches, Inter currently sit one point ahead of AC Milan and two points clear of reigning champions Napoli. Ahead of their trip to Saudi Arabia for the Super Cup, Chivu’s side are on a three-match winning streak in the league and have reached the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
On the other side, Bologna have proven to be a stubborn opponent. Since suffering a heavy 1-6 defeat at the end of 2022, they have lost just once in their last five meetings with Inter. A 1-0 home victory last April, sealed by a stoppage-time goal from Riccardo Orsolini, gives the Rossoblu hope of beating Inter in back-to-back matches for the first time this century.
Bologna enter the Super Cup as Coppa Italia champions, but their preparation has been far from ideal after a recent defeat to Juventus cost them a place in Serie A’s top four. Having failed to keep a clean sheet in six consecutive matches, facing Inter’s powerful attack twice within two weeks represents a daunting challenge.
